Three bomb blasts went off in Assam again on New Year’s day. The state was rocked by deadly blasts that left 88 dead just two months ago (see our post). Five people were killed and over 50 injured in three blasts .

Police suspect the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) to be behind the blasts. The blast occurred before Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram arrived in the city to review the law and order situation in the state.
The bomb blasts are a bad start for the new year. They highlight the precarious state of our Nation’s internal security and how the very idea of India is under attack.
